Holistic Treatments

What is Holistic Therapy?

The term holistic is derived form a Greek word meaning "Whole" Conventional medicine tends to focus on the symptom or the part of the body that has the problem whilst the holistic approach takes into account the whole person, emotional and physical. The body has a vital life force and when this becomes out of balance - disease can take a hold. The aim of holistic therapy is to restore the balance of this vital life force and help the body heal itself naturally.

The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century, which is activated by intention. It works on many levels, not just the physical.

The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal Energy’. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. Known as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘chi’ in China and ‘prana’ in India. Acupuncture, T’ai chi and Yoga are also based on the free-flow of this energy in a person.

Illness can be a time of great stress. Reiki can help us cope by encouraging relaxation and bringing balance to both mind and emotions.

Benefits reported by Clients include deep relaxation, promoting a calm, peaceful sense of well being on all levels.

Reiki encourages and supports positive personal choices, such as improving diet, taking more exercise, devoting time for rest or leisure activities, and may reduce the need for alcohol and tobacco. Engendering greater inner harmony and balance, regular Reiki treatments promote a calmer response to life’s challenges.

Reiki’s gentle energy is easily adapted to most medical conditions and may be used safely by people of all ages, including the newborn, pregnant mothers, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly, in any situation. Being complementary, Reiki works effectively alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies, expanding treatment options.

Reiki can enhance everyday living, and regular sessions may help to promote development of a healthier, more resourceful state of being.

Although even just the one treatment can make a difference, many people chooose to have a course of treatments.

Crystal Healing
As well as being beautiful to look at crystals have been used for healing for centuries. Our bodies are made from energy each part moving (vibrating) at a certain frequency. When this delicate energy state is unbalanced, for example through stress, disease occurs. Crystals are a natural source of energy from the earth and when placed on or around our bodies they help to bring it back to a natural state of health.
A crystal healing session will leave you feeling in a state of peace and calm.

Reflexology is a safe and gentle treatment with a history that can be traced back to ancient Egypt and China. It is based on the discovery that there are points on the feet which correspond to organs within the body. By using special pressure techniques to stimulate these points, imbalances can be both detected and effectively treated to restore balance and well being. Reflexology is a holistic therapy meaning that the whole person is treated not just the symptoms of illness. The treatment is a time for you to clear your mind and relax, and only your shoes and socks need to be removed. Usually a deep state of relaxation can be achieved which can be particularly helpful for stress-related conditions. By allowing your body to relax and renew, reflexology can also give you an energy boost and help alleviate that feeling of being "tired all the time"

Kansa Marma Head Massage New treatment
The head and face are first massaged with essential oils to kick start the relaxation process. Followed by a detailed marma massage routine using the wand and Marma oil. Ayurvedic treatment of the classical marma points (vital areas) and nadis (energy channels) in the body are routine in India. You can think of these vital areas as the junction points where consciousness is most closely related to the body. Marmas are sensitive and very powerful areas on the body which can be stimulated in a gentle but powerful way in order to remove blockages and stale energy, and enhance the flow of energy in the body.
Sometimes there is confusion about the relationship between the Chakras and Marmas. In fact Chakras are energy centres located on the spine, while marmas are the points on the skin. The seven 'Mahamarma' points (important marma points) correspond with the seven Chakras. I shall be focusing on these seven Mahamarma points.

Indian Head Massage
In India a traditional head massage practised by generations was an important feature of family life and maintenance of health. It consisted of a vigorous head massage and use of oils for hair health. It has now been westernised to incorporate the upper back, shoulders, arms, hands and face - the areas most vulnerable to stress. By increasing oxygen and blood supply to the brain, mental fatigue, anxiety and stress are all relieved.
Increased mobility and pain relief can also be achieved. A feeling of calmness and relaxation, dispersal of toxins from tense knotted muscles, stimulation of circulation and a higher level of alertness and concentration can all be achieved from regular treatment. If that is not all, improved scalp and hair condition, relief from eye-strain, tension headaches and migraine. Hot stones and essential oils are also used to enhance the psychological and physical benefits of this treatment.

Thermal Auricular Therapy (Hopi Ear Candles)
Also known as ear candling this is a holistic approach to ear syringing. A wonderful relaxing treatment which can help many physical and psychological complaints. The treatment represents a cleansing program for the body as a whole, not just the ears. The "chimney effect" created is a sucking motion when the end of the candle is lit. The flame creates a vibration of moving air, rising up through the candle, which serves to gently massage the ear drum. This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for earache and headache, ear noises (tinnitus), vertigo and pressure from flying. Also it is soothing for stress and nervousness. The physical effect often described after the treatment is a soothing deep sense of security and feeling of happiness. it is a safe and effective treatment for children too. Although for anyone with a perforated eardrum or who has grommets fitted, it is not safe. Includes an aromatherapy sinus pressure face and scalp massage.
